HOW TO IRON A SHIRT/BLOUSE

STEP 1:

Iron collar. Iron inside collar first, then outside.

Hold shirt upright between ironing board and opened Extension Arm so that two thirds of the shirt is above the Extension Arm.

..........................................................................................
Lower collar to the Extension Arm and push in toward the ironing board with the hand closest to the wide end of ironing board.
..........................................................................................
Place collar close to edge of ironing board and iron from outside points inward to the middle. Repeat this series of steps for the outside collar.
..........................................................................................

STEP 2:

Iron yoke (top section of back of shirt just under collar).

Spread yoke (inside first, then outside) across tapered end of ironing board.

..........................................................................................

STEP 3:

Iron bands (these are the button & buttonhole sections).

Hold shirt sideways with both hands at opposite ends of band with the inside of shirt facing you. Place between ironing board and Extension Arm so that two thirds of the shirt is above the Extension Arm. Drape over Extension Arm as shown in photo. You may close Extension Arm if shirt wants to slide off.

Lay band on ironing board. If shirt has pocket, lay enough of shirt on the board to iron the back of this. Repeat for the opposite band.

..........................................................................................

STEP 4:

Iron sleeves (for short sleeves: lay flat on top of ironing board).

Align seams of both sleeves from shoulder to cuffs. Place shirt between ironing board and Extension Arm so that one sleeve lays across ironing board and the other drapes over the Extension Arm.

..........................................................................................
Position cuff as in photo so that inside is opened to allow the iron to reach inside as far as top of placket (opening). Reposition to iron outside of cuff. Lay sleeve out flat to iron as shown in previous picture. Bring opposite sleeve to rest on top of this sleeve on board. Hold together and rotate shirt so that opposite sleeve is on the board and pressed sleeve drapes over the Extension Arm.
..........................................................................................

STEP 5:

Iron body.

Place shirt over the tapered end of ironing board as in first photo. You will begin ironing the top portion of the shirt. Next, iron the lower portion of the shirt front. Keep repositioning shirt on the board so that as you iron the body of the shirt the ironed portion advances away from you. The photos below show the process.

..........................................................................................
Next, iron the lower portion of the shirt front. Position the shirt on the board so that as you iron the body of the shirt the ironed portion advances away from you.
..........................................................................................
Iron back section as shown. Keep rotating away from you to do the middle and left sections of the back.

Iron top left front section as shown.

STEP 6:

Finishing Touches. (Use a suitably-sized hanger.)

Inspect shirt for any areas that may need touch up. Carefully lay shirt on ironing board to touch up with iron. Place shirt on hanger. Button one sleeve to the cuff of opposite sleeve before hanging in closet to keep sleeves smooth. Allow to dry thoroughly before putting in closet and avoid crowding in closet.
